I know diamonds look pretty but, why do you have to spend so much to say I love you. I know that the diamond industry has poured 100’s of millions into advertising to make people belive that its a part of getting married, buying a diamond ring. They put it in movies, soap operas, commmercials, its everywhere, and it no coincidence. So what do you think.

CF_ asked: By now we should all be well aware that wedding rings - (diamonds and gold) are NOT environmentally friendly and worse still they are socially corrupt (see “BLOOD DIAMOND” the movie if you are still in doubt about how evil the processes of obtaining diamonds are on people)
so… to all those planning a wedding - are you willing to forgo this show of wealth to make the planet better???
- just so you know.. I am happily married and have NO ring..
plus I have better things to spend my money on..
ANYTHING mined from the ground is going to be bad for the environment - its a no- brainer..
only USED rings are environmentally friendly
a RING is NOT a show of LOVE…if it is.. then you are missing something in your life that is a REAL show of love…

I’m getting married in a few months and my fiance and I are looking into buying tension set bands for wedding rings. A friend of mine was given one as an engagement ring last year and loves it. She’s never had a problem with it.
When I went to talk to jewelers about them, more than one actually said they just don’t do them because the risk of losing the stone is so high. If it snags on something it can just pop out of the setting.
I’d like to know what other people’s experiences are with these kinds of rings. I love the look of them, but I don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds and then lose the stone in a few months. Cheers!
I appreciate the concern about the conflict diamonds… we’ll actually be using heirloom diamonds from my grandmother.
A tension set band, typically made from titanium or platinum, is a ring that holds the stone with only tension or pressure. There’s no setting for the stone and it’s not held above or below with anything. There are grooves cut into the sides of the metal that hold the stone.
