I just bought a man’s diamond wedding ring at Kevin’s Jeweler in the mall (A decent jewelry branch in California). The sales told me that it’s a 1/3 carat weight natural diamond, D class, probably between VS1-SI2 clarity with fair cut. When I asked for the certificate, they told me that they don’t issue one for diamonds that are small. They only offer 2-years warranty. Is it true that diamonds that are small doesn’t come with a certificate? Or is this a scam?

I’m sorry if this is a sensitive subject. My fiance and I have never bought jewelry before (other than the engagement ring). We want to get 2-tone rings with no diamonds. We have no idea what an average ring costs. We are just beginning to search and don’t really know anything about rings.
Thank you for all of your answers so far. My fiance had the engagement ring custom made using an online company. It turned out great (just too big), but we don’t want to purchase our wedding rings on line. We want to be able to see them in person first.

I think we live in a more expensive area, which is part of the reason I was curious about the average cost of rings. If the rings we’ve been looking at are a lot more than what seems to be the average, it might be worth it to us to look elsewhere.

Okay, this may sound dumb, but I am not sure how all this works as I have never been engaged before and my mom isn’t around to tell me how it really works! The center diamond is 1ct marquise and directly on the sides it has baguettes and then on the out side that would look like a wedding band but is all put together on both sides are round brilliant cut diamonds which total the engagement ring at 2.50cts. Now my question is this…. do you still get another wedding band? I am sort of confused about how to do this if we will be looking for wedding bands as well, or if what I have is it or is it just personal preference? I mean, how do you put another one or two sides to this already pretty large ring? I am not vain and don’t need anything too big, but since we are doing a really small wedding, we invested more in the jewelry since I will wear it the rest of my life and not something that just lasts one day! No smartass answers would be appreciated it but I just want to know if what I have should be it, or are you suppose to get another one?! Thanks!
