I sometimes see some European girls wear diamond rings on their left ring finger but after some conversation I find out they are not married. I’m curious to know whether the left ring finger has the same significance to Europeans and/or the left ring finger is used for a promise ring/engagement ring.

I have a very nice engagement/wedding and a anniversary ring and am now divorced. I want to take the rings in and have them redone so that they do not represent my old relationship. Has anyone out there done this and if so, is it expensive or hard to do? They all have diamonds in them.
