Is the engagement ring also used as the wedding ring, or do I need two rings?

I give her an engagement ring, and then I think I have to give her a wedding band too.
but my question is, is the wedding band just a simple gold/silver/Platinum metal band, or is it basically another diamond ring? I spent the last 3 years of college saving up for this freaking ring (2 carats, flawless clarity, colorless, round brilliant).
I didn’t want to embarass myself and her giving her a crappy 1/4 carat ring with a ton of inclusions, so I invested a lot of money to get a nice ring, but I can’t afford a wedding band of the same quality.

well once you ask her to marry you, i would ask her (not right away) what she prefers. With a huge ring like that she may just want a solid band,, i know i did, so that when i want to dress up i could wear both, and when im just around the house and doing everyday activities i just wear the band. The hard parts over. I wouldnt worry about the second part of the ring for a while.
Generally the engagement ring is fancier than the wedding band itself. When my boyfriend and I picked out my engagement ring, we picked out a 1/4 ct. Tsaria diamond with 14 ct. gold band, and just simple channel diamonds for the wedding band. The engagement ring was $850 and the wedding band was around $350. Don’t feel bad about presenting her with a wimpy wedding band, cause it’s the engagement ring that needs to be accented with the band.
Go to a jeweler that will give you a warranty on the rings, free cleaning and sizing, and will solder the engagement and wedding band together for free. Make sure what color of a band she likes, there are some women who can’t stand gold-gold. White gold of platinum are kind of ‘trendy’ right now, but platinum is overpriced and wears out easily, so it will need to be cleaned and buffed often.
You can buy them in sets. They very in prices. I would not spend any less than $2500. The sets contain two rings, one with a diamond and one without. You give the one with the diamond at the time of the proposal and the solid wedding band (which will match) at the wedding. When you go to the jewelry store don’t be afraid to ask questions. They won’t think you’re an idiot, no guy really knows about that kind of stuff. If you did, I would be concerned.
I have good news for you. Depending on the setting of the ring, your fiance may not want a band. Then in that situation you are good with using just the one ring. Plus when purchasing such a large ie expensive ring, a lot of jewelers will cut you a great deal on a wedding band. The best thing to do is talk to your fiancee about what she would like and go from there. Good luck in whatever path you take though.
Visit your jeweler by yourself and talk to him/her about what you have in mind, and ask any questions that you have. He/she will be happy to help you, they’re the professionals!
After you propose to your girlfriend, she’ll let you know what she’d like too.
As you begin to make your wedding plans, make an appointment to go to the jeweler’s with your fiancee and choose your wedding bands together. Keep in mind that it’s her responsibility to pay for your wedding band.
Good Luck and Congratulations!
You don’t have to get a diamond band. Usually the diamond eternity band is given later in the marriage, as a third ring. A coordinated metal band is more than fine.
No worries, the wedding band is simply a band. It can just be the metal (gold/silver/platinum) or it can have small diamonds on it. I won’t have a large center stone on it or anything so it is substantially less expensive. After giving her the engagement ring you guys can shop for the wedding band together to find something that goes with the beautiful rock you got her. Way to go
when you are getting married put your engagement on your right hand then u will have ur wedding ring on your left
