diamond wedding rings
CrackerJack250 asked:

My wife of three years has yet to get her wedding ring, I wanna put a rock on her finger but I’m poor as f***. Just to let y’all know how poor I am. Ok first off keep in mind that we had to rush into getting married ’cause my wife was a Jehovah’s Witness at the time. Well, I was dead broke so one of the witnesses offered to pay for our marriage license to keep us from living in fornicating sin (we were living together unmarried, wooo big deal right?) . Anyway, it’s been 3 years now I still haven’t got her a ring yet and I’m kinda sad about that ’cause I wanna buy her an iced-out bridal set and I can’t. Well can’t at the moment, but I gotta job now so I’m gonna save up and try to get it for her. I just wish that I could get it for her sooner, ’cause our anniversary’s comin up on Sept 23. Any ideas????
Yeah, I’m familiar with Blood Diamond, I’ve seen it and it’s a very sad story I cried in the middle of the movie and I understand that people over in Affrica are dying over’em. Untill now I didn’t know that people are actually boycotting diamonds for the cause. Ok I’m in, I’ll get a diamond imtated saphire.

Yeah…see if you can get one of the same chumps that paid for the marriage license will front you the $2000 for a decent ring. You think that’s a lot for the ring, just wait until the divorce!!!

Marketing. Those commercials make you think that diamonds equal love. I got my wife the big rock and it didn’t help our marriage last. Diamonds are forever, but that doesn’t mean your marriage will last forever. What matters is that you both love each other and have the same goals in mind. If your wife really wants one, you should shop around on ebay. They are much cheaper there. If she could really do without one I would say the money could be better spent on saving for your future (or present).

Diamond prices are purely supply and demand. People will pay the high prices for diamonds because they are touted as “rare” so they are priced that way.

For a really great deal on a nice diamond ring check out:

You should also check out sapphire rings. Sapphires come in almost every colour so they can be very personalized and unique, but they also come in white which has the look of a diamond, but not the high price.

You could always check out pawn shops. People pawn their wedding rings if they get divorced. There are some really nice rings for a lot cheaper that buying a brand new one. You don’t even have to tell her where you bought it.

i knew a couple that were married for 10 years before she got her ring and they were just as married if not happier than a lot of couples. I know that you want to get her something that will make both of you feel very proud and special. I don’t know if you have thought about it but sometimes rental places will have jewelry that you can rent. I know that a rental store in my town called Aaron’s has wedding rings that are very nice that you can rent to own. Also try a pawn shop i know it seems strange to get used jewelry but hey you can usually get it at a good price and she doesn’t have to know where you got it from and how much you spent. Also try the news paper. Don’t stress out too much about the ring. My fiance and i only paid $900 for my bridal set, it was on sale at zales and i absolutely love it! It is all really a matter of shopping. Don’t go for the first thing that you see, chances are you will find something you like more for cheaper. Diamonds are very expensive and the sad part is that most of them come from Africa and they make children mine for them for hours and they don’t get any pay most of the time. I will never want or buy another diamond. You could also get her a nice gem. Like a sappihire, means loyalty to god, or a ruby. That is becoming a popular trend to not go with the traditional diamond. Good luck

TRy a pawn shop! You can get something pretty for less.

Also, Walmart and KMart have reasonably priced bridal jewelry.

Try also Craigslist. You may get a great deal that way.
    is another option

Awww how cute is your story. Congratulations!!

PS/ Diamonds have the most profit and over head cost of any otehr product. Diamonds are 500% mark up over their real value. It’s good bussiness and they ory on people’s feelings.

Pawn Shops for sure if you dont have alot of money. Also check the classifieds in your local news paper. They have wedding rings at Kay Jewlry and zales for as low as 700.00 and you can get a band for 200.00 they have the option of finance and u pay on it for 6 years..

Diamonds are expensive because of the demand. Go to Bidz.com and Ebay. Ebay is where my fiancee got my ring, it is anitque, and was cheap relatively.

    PS
Not every woman want to be “ice-out”. It can actually look very tacky. Get her something classy, sophisticated. Something where she doesn’t think “what a watse” when she looks at it.

In all reality a movie is not going to give you the skinny… Diamonds really were not all that expensive, say 50-60 years ago. What happened is that the marketing firms (and the diamond sellers) realized that it is a more or less a necessity now. Basically you have to buy a diamond ring in today’s world to make an engagement official, Or so they say. Anyway. The more guys buy diamonds to propose to their women, the more the price will go up. The idea of getting them out of 3rd world countries, with diamond trade and wars being financed with the diamond trade does effect the price; to the wholesale buyer. However the price is so jacked up once it is cut polished and set that you really never see that wholesale price. Cutting is a hard learned skill and you pay dearly for it.
There is not an easy answer for the diamond ring. If you want it you have to pay for it! Best I could tell you is hit up a couple pawn shops, take a look talk to the owner. A lot of what you see in there you can actually buy pretty cheap if you talk to the owner. Get something small if you have too and then build on it later.

You can get lovely rings for a few hundred dollars and up. Don’t worry about the diamond mining thing - most places use conflict-free diamonds now - you just ask.=-1&storeId=10001&ddkey=PCNSearch

i totally agree with you. from a woman’s point of view i would not mind a regular beautiful ring that i loved. you cares if its diamond or not. i would rather the ring mean something to me than to my walet i hate the thought of guys spending ten to twenty thousand on a ring. hey a thousand or so is enough for me. im not materialistic.

As others have said diamonds aren’t rare -it’s a hoax.

Don’t feel sad… Give yourself all the room and flexibility to totally imagine from scratch what kind of ring you want to give her. You can find something form a legend or a romantic story and copy it.

If you like white “ice”, natural white zircon, not to be confused with Cubic zirconia, is a really nice diamond substitute. It sparkles with rainbows like diamonds do and it is natural. You have to look around a lot, because they are obscure, but very affordable - I just bought a 1 carat one from jewelry television for like 10$ shshshs…

or you could go with a lab created white sapphire, those are also really affordable.
