check out Mess around with designing your own ring and see what’s important what’s expensive etc etc. The most important are the 4 C’s, Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carot.

You most likely want something as colourless as possible.

Do you have a mappins near you? they have AMAZING diamonds. Canadian Diamonds too.

The most important thing you should know is that of the Four C’s, cut is the most important. The better the cut of the diamond, the more light it will reflect, making it sparkle.

If it comes down to a decision between a smaller carat diamond with a better cut, or a higher carat diamond with an okay cut, get the smaller one. I tried on two diamonds like the ones I just described, and the one with the better cut was twice as beautiful.

Next in importance is color, then clarity, then carat weight.

Get the highest quality cut you can afford.

I should also add that my fiance got my ring at, which is a Candian company :) They’re conflict-free diamonds, which was important to me, but they also have the most beautiful settings and very reasonable prices. I would look into it.

I recommend this one. It is one of the best sites on diamond info and it doesn’t sell diamonds - so you know it’s unbiased.

Also check out the page on engagement rings. It says some pretty incredible stuff about how to get your money’s worth:
