paulamarie27 asked:

I would like to know the pros and cons of fusing your engagement and wedding rings together. Mine are always slipping around and the diamond on my wedding rings pokes and scratches….what do you all think about having them fused together. Thanks so much!
just thought i would add….my wedding ring is the one with the diamond and my engagement ring is flat with a bunch of inset diamonds and i dont take it off…i want to know wheather or not you like yours separate or apart….how do they feel etc. thanks again.

Ask a jeweler. He will be able to help you make the best decision.

I like being able to separate the rings.

It’s especially good if you travel or workout a lot. This way I can leave my diamond at home or in a safe but still have my wedding band on to show that I am married.

If you fuse them, I recommend buying a simple back-up band that you can wear when you dont want to wear the full set.

Added: Why are people giving thumbs down for personal preference? It’s an opinion question - should we not give opinions?

From what I understand, getting them put together keeps them lined up and looking pretty.

The downside may pop up when you need the rings resized.

I’ve fused mine together…ben together 34 years soon. I was like you and didn’t like my engagement ring going to the side of my ring.

I fused mine because it seemed simpler, but the only reason I regret it is because there are a lot of situations that you might take off your diamond, but not your whole ring–especially when cooking and mountain climbing, etc.

Soldering your rings is the best thing you can do if you wear them together. When they’re not soldered, they will wear on each other and scratch easily. They also rotate very easily and it gets annoying. Soldering them DOES normally keep them facing up opeat least the same way together and it’s very easy for them to be resized even if they’re soldered together. It’s not a big deal at all. I worked at a jewelry store and we had ladies come in all the time with their rings soldered and they needed them resized. It’s no problem at all.

I had mine sodered, but very lightly, with just two small links holding them together. They can be taken apart very easily by a jeweler if I want them apart later.

i have mine fused together.. i don’t see any cons. i love it this way. before mine were always sliding around and sliding apart from eachotehr and it was annoying. i got it fused together and i love it! it’s so much easier to have it as one ring.

A professional jeweler would be able to advise you.

Personally, I wear my wedding band on the left hand and my engagement ring on the right, this way it’s not too bulky all on one finger.

I’ve had a jeweler tell me that it’s best to wear just the wedding band without the diamond at times when you might be vulnerable to robbery. (parks, jogging trails, etc.) However, I had mine soldered together because the wedding band curves around the diamond and it was constantly moving and making me crazy.

Well…I have been married since 2005 until Christmas of 2007 my rings were not fused. I have a round brilliant diamond solitaire ring in a tiffany setting and my wedding band is a gold band with round channel set diamonds. Yes they were always flopping around and never in the same way; but we travel alot so I did not like to wear my engagement ring when we travel. This past Christmas my husband got me another channel set diamond band so I have one on each side of my engagement ring. When I got the new ring sized I sent in my engagement ring to have the new band fused to my engagement ring. But I still have one band separate so when we travel I do not have to worry about losing or some cleaning lady stealing my engagment ring.

Your problem sounds like more of a sizing problem, than anything else. Also get the claws checked on the diamond, they shouldn’t be scratching.

I chose to not get my rings soldered together, because I knew there would be times I would only want to wear my wedding band. Of course I usually wear my rings together. - And sure enough in the future, being pregnant, the fingers swell… and one ring was easier to wear than two.
My sister got hers soldered and ended up having to buy another plain band to use at work.

There are no cons to it - the rings are fused, they look even bigger and more beautiful, and they don’t swirl around your finger like crazy anymore. It is all pros to do it!! I highly recommend it.
