diamond wedding rings
Csi Fan 33 asked:

I bought my wifes engagement ring which is 1 ct diamond stone with 24 tiny diamonds all on the sides with a wedding band to match with little diamonds..its 18ct white gold.
The ring is made by a company called Coast and we bought it from a retailer.
The ring has turned black around all the little diamonds (its not dirty) its tarnished. They are saying that it is a chemical reaction that is our fault..has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Are they feeding us lies? I thought about taking it to another jeweler to look at it. I cant believe all the problems we are having with this ring. What would you do?

get a second opinion in writing if the whole chem reaction thing is true then maybe you can have it coasted with clear laquer

heyyyyyy i just happen to be a jewler at a very well known place called littman jewlers, and pretty much there is no chemical that can wear and tear a ring like that, even so they should have a repair shop where thay should have offered to fix it for u,and if u have a warranty it should be covered,i have had my ring for years and that has never ever happend i also have i carat diamond and 18 carat white gold. or u could tell them u will take them to court and trust me they will probably give u another mounting for the diamond!!!!!!!!!

I know that many women are sensitive to the nickel sometimes found in white gold. I also know that white gold is sometimes plated and when the plating wears off, the color exposed is usually grayish (not black).

I would have another jeweler take a look at it to see what’s going on. You can always pay to have the ring replated in Platinum, if necessary.

man, if they are telling you that, then i would have the diamonds checked out by someone else as well.

Take it in somewhere else for a second opinion and to make sure that it is real. Real gold does not tarnish. I know sometimes it will turn someones finger a weird color if they use a certain lotion etc, but the gold should never change colors on you.

Well I have a problem with white/yellow gold and silver.. I’m allergic to the metals.. However… most sets like that don’t tarnish unless they are plated instead. We lost our wedding rings when we moved from one house to another just over 3 years ago. Since then I haven’t worn a ring. :( Were going to have a recommitment ceremony for our 10th wedding anniversary, and were going to design a new ring for me, and get him a plain platinum gold band he can wear when he’s not working on air craft.
