Where is the best place to buy a diamond set in NYC?

I am going to Manhattan next Saturday and I’d like to buy a diamond engagement ring and wedding band - good quality - but for a great price. I know on Canal Street they have great deals on stuff like pocket books and watches… but I’m not sure if this is the best place to buy a diamond… I mean, how will I know its of good quality? go to the diamond district. but you need to have an idea of what you’re looking for. then shop around and compare prices. and walk away if you feel pressured or that they are giving you a crappy deal. but honestly, you’d be better off going there in the middle of the week…saturdays they are pretty busy and won’t really take the time to bargin with you because they have other customers to take care of.
