How many people have tension set diamond rings?

I’m getting married in a few months and my fiance and I are looking into buying tension set bands for wedding rings. A friend of mine was given one as an engagement ring last year and loves it. She’s never had a problem with it.
When I went to talk to jewelers about them, more than one actually said they just don’t do them because the risk of losing the stone is so high. If it snags on something it can just pop out of the setting.
I’d like to know what other people’s experiences are with these kinds of rings. I love the look of them, but I don’t want to spend hundreds of pounds and then lose the stone in a few months. Cheers!
I appreciate the concern about the conflict diamonds… we’ll actually be using heirloom diamonds from my grandmother.
A tension set band, typically made from titanium or platinum, is a ring that holds the stone with only tension or pressure. There’s no setting for the stone and it’s not held above or below with anything. There are grooves cut into the sides of the metal that hold the stone.

My best friend has had one for 6- 7 years now, and as far as I know, she has not had a problem with it.
She was concerned about losing the stone too, but so far so good!
Please ask for a “conflict free diamond”
you wouldnt think this but literally thousands of innocent people are killed for Diamonds.. it’s extremely disturbing if you read about it….the only way you can assure the ring on your finger hasnt caused the deaths of entire familys is by asking for a conflict free diamond.
Our jeweler also said it isn’t the best setting because the stone has a greater chance of falling out. But tension settings are beautiful.
my friend got one and did have problems, within the first week of having it! Luckily, she had insurance on it, and she replaced it with something more sturdy. Get what you want, make sure tho it has insurance-full coverage, in case something does happen. I got a policy from the jeweler on my ring. We got it at Jareds. Love them!
Can someone clarify for me what a tension set ring is?
I dont know…..
I had a tension ring as an “every day ring” it was set with a chunk of blue glass and was just a pretty ring, I had it for a long time and never had any problems with it. I guess in principle it would be the same as an engagement ring, but make sure you get it insured in case the diamond does pop!
tension set diamond rings are nice, but they are not meant for everyday wear as diamond is only hold by both side by the metal. A 18K white gold will be a better choice as it is harder compare to platinum thus giving it a more secure set.it is also advisable to send it to your local jeweller annually so that they can check if the setting is secure before you loose it
