What’s the significance of wearing a diamond ring on the right hand ring finger?

SoCal Dude asked:

I was at the gym this morning, and I noticed that one of the personal trainers who I know fairly well was wearing a very nice diamond ring - it looked like a wedding or engagement ring.

The unusual thing was that she was wearing the ring on the ring finger of her right hand, rather than her left hand.

Is there any special meaning to wearing a diamond ring on her right hand rather than her left? She’s also of Chinese descent, so I’m not sure whether this may have some significance in her culture.

I know some European countries use the right hand instead of the left, so that may be why.

Also, did you *check* her left hand? Some women wear their wedding band on their left hand, and their engagement band on their right, because it’s not comfortable for them to wear both together on the same finger.

It may also be that it’s not an engagement ring - it’s just a ring she likes to wear - and she doesn’t want to give off the wrong impression to anyone who might be looking to pick up chicks. Go get ‘em, tiger!

Hispanics do wear engagement and wedding rings on their right hand.

    Other option

When I wore my engagement ring on the right hand, it was because I wasn’t engaged anymore (divorced) but I liked the ring and wanted to wear it.

    Good luck

There’s been a recent craze in the last few years about a “right hand ring”. It’s suppose to signify independence and womanhood, and the left ring finger is of course usually meant for a wedding ring. However, these rings usually don’t have the solitary raised diamond, they’re usually a diamond band or something simpler.

I’ve seen divorcees and widows that don’t want to completely take off their ring, but don’t want it to mean they’re married wear it on their right hand.

I don’t know if there is a significance or not. I had a friend whose mother passed away and she wore her mom’s wedding ring on her right hand. Or maybe it is just a ring. I have an April birthday and my birthstone is diamond.

Like Kat (who responded above), I have a pal who wears her late mother’s diamond ring on her right hand.

There are as many reasons for wearing a diamond ring on the right hand as there are people. If you really want to know her reason, ask that personal trainer.

It probably means nothing more than she really liked the ring and doesn’t want to look like she’s married by wearing it on her ring finger.

Left hand represents ‘us.’ Right hand represents ‘me.’

It could be any number of things. Haven’t met any Hispanics with rings on their right fingers after living in two heavily Hispanic cities. It could be a family ring, a right hand ring or she just liked it and it wasn’t an engagement ring so she’s wearing it on her right hand. And every now and then I’ve seen divorced people wearing really lovely rings on their right hands because they got the right ring from the wrong person so they wear it on the “wrong” hand.

Maybe, but right now in the US, women are wearing diamond right hand rings as a sign of independance
